We do Windows®.
Liquid Agency helped Microsoft® launch the new Microsoft Windows MobileTM brand by designing retail environments in major cities across the country.
Reaching consumers at retail is a crucial component of Microsoft's branding efforts. Liquid Agency was tasked with the responsibility for the retail launch, including the design, fabrication, and installation of window displays and in-store environments in major retailers in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.
Windows MobileTM: A brand new identity.
More than just a logo, the new brand is defined by a complete set of visual assets, including: icons, unique graphic elements and shapes, a specific color palette, an extensive photographic library, and targeted messaging.
Each installation is designed to fit a specific location. For example, in the case of the two sided window at CompUSA Chicago, we leveraged the existing columns to provide structural support. The displays are often assembled on site using custom built, pre-fabricated components. Most of the work is done at night in order to not disrupt retail activity. As daylight breaks, the installation is pretty much complete. All of the dust and fingerprints are cleaned. All audio and video is connected. Lighting is adjusted. Motion devices are set and tested. And then we sit back and observe, as customers begin to interact with the new display. At right is a lobby display in CompUSA Chicago.
Each window is unique.
At right is the window display we designed for CompUSA on 5th Ave. in New York. In this case, we created a display that spanned across the main store window, yet afforded passers by a view of the inside of the store. The oversize image created visual impact, and physical products were featured alongside a demo loop inviting people inside the store.
Same idea. Different solution.
The DataVision store in New York located on 5th Avenue is only a block from CompUSA. This meant we had to create a design that felt different - yet was very much a part of the same campaign. Besides a differnt photo, we also used different materials, and a completely different layout. As a result, the two competitive retailers were both satisfied!
Bringing the experience to consumers.
In addition to the window displays, Liquid was also responsible for the design of demo kiosks in a variety of retail computer and electronics stores. The kiosks are updateable and feature the latest campaign graphics. They encourage consumers to experience first-hand the latest devices from the Windows Mobile family. To that extent, each kiosk features PDAs and Smartphones, and allows consumers to surf the Web or check their eMail via WIFI. Here is a kiosk, located in CompUSA San Francisco.
Designing an upscale boutique.
Designing an upscale boutique. This boutique superstore on Madison Avenue in NY caters to a fashionable clientele. When RCS decided to revamp its interiors, Liquid was asked to get involved. Our responsibility was to design the section featuring the new and exciting Windows Mobile brand. We adapted our modular display solution to this customized environment and in record time, delivered a design that has become the most popular showcase of the entire store.
CES 2004 Retail Display.
As an extension of the launch effort, Liquid Agency designed a section of the retail store at CES 2004 that was dedicated exclusively to Microsoft Windows Mobile. The retail environment included window displays, custom demo kiosks, and technology showcases. Considering that the show is attended by over 100,000 people, this was a great way to reach thousands of tech-savvy executives from all over the world.

CES 2004 Retail Display.
Microsoft’s exhibit at the 2004 CES consisted of independent sections each featuring a unique business unit or technology. Liquid designed the section dedicated to the Microsoft Windows Mobile brand. Not only did we apply the launch campaign assets to existing properties, we also developed a series of custom display units showcasing the new devices and highlighting the latest technology innovations.
